Whiskers & Lace is a one-of-a-kind handmade junk journal created around the warmth and charm of cats, with a soft vintage palette and an abundance of textile details throughout.

Measuring approximately 9 × 5¾ inches with 59 pages, this is a substantial journal filled with tea- and coffee-dyed papers, pockets, tuck spots, removable pieces of ephemera, decorative pages and plenty of places to write and add your own memories.

But perhaps its most distinctive feature is what happens along the edges.

Layers of Lace & Ruffles

Lace and ruffled trims appear throughout the journal, creating wonderfully irregular layers that peek beyond the edges of the pages when the book is closed.

Some trims are delicate and narrow. Others are much fuller and become decorative features of their own. You'll also find larger textile and decorative elements placed along corners and page edges.

Depending upon the page and material, these embellishments have been either sewn or glued into place as part of the journal's handmade construction.

The result is intentionally abundant rather than perfectly uniform. When viewed from the side, all those different edges overlap to give the journal its soft, full and unmistakably handmade appearance.

Tea & Coffee Dyed Papers

Many of the pages have been individually tea or coffee dyed, creating variations in cream, tan, warm brown and softly aged tones.

Because these papers are hand dyed, staining and coloration naturally vary from one area to another. Some pages are lighter, while others carry deeper marks and patterns from the dyeing process.

These variations are intentional and help create the feeling of papers that have already gathered a little history.

Among the more decorative pages are also quieter areas where you can write, draw, add photographs, attach keepsakes or continue embellishing the journal yourself.

Cats Around Every Corner

Cats and kittens appear throughout the book—from larger feature images to smaller cards, tags and tucked pieces waiting to be discovered.

The cat and kitten artwork used throughout the journal comes from purchased digital artwork and commercially produced ephemera selected to complement the journal's soft vintage style.

These images have been incorporated into handmade pockets, layered pages, tuck spots and decorative arrangements throughout the book.

There is something new to discover as the pages turn: a kitten peeking from a pocket, a removable card, a decorative fold-out, a lace-edged page or another little piece tucked away for safekeeping.

Made to Be Used

Although Whiskers & Lace contains many decorative elements, I intentionally included writing space throughout the journal.

The 59 pages offer a combination of embellished areas and quieter tea- and coffee-dyed papers, giving you room to make the journal your own.

Use it for writing, photographs, memories, favorite quotations, cat stories, drawings, collage, keepsakes or little everyday things you simply don't want to forget.

The pockets and tuck spots also provide places for storing small notes, photographs and other paper treasures.

Handmade Means Individual

This journal was made one page and one detail at a time rather than manufactured to look perfectly uniform.

Hand-dyed papers naturally contain changes in color, staining and markings. Lace and ruffles vary in width, texture and placement. Some textile embellishments are sewn while others are glued, depending upon the material and how they were incorporated into the page.

Irregularities in paper, edges, stitching, layering and embellishment are part of the handmade nature and vintage-inspired character of the journal.

The photographs show the actual journal you will receive. Colors may appear somewhat different in person due to lighting, photography and individual screen settings.
