Tea - Naturally Hand-Dyed Paper – 10 Sheets, 8.5 × 11 Inch
Details
Warm, softly aged, beautifully unpredictable—and created with tea rather than printed to imitate the effect.
Each package contains 10 sheets of standard 8.5 × 11 inch copy paper, individually hand dyed using tea. The natural dye creates subtle shifts in tone, mottling, markings, and texture across the surface, giving every sheet its own character.
Some sheets may be softly and evenly colored. Others may carry deeper pools of color, speckles, organic markings, impressions, or unexpected patterns created during the dyeing and drying process. Some sheets may also feature intentionally created stencil patterns, adding another layer of visual interest to the assortment.
These papers aren't designed to look identical.
In fact, that's rather the point.
Natural materials, water, paper, time, and the surfaces involved in the process all leave their own small signatures behind.
Every package is different, and there is no standard assortment of naturally dyed papers.
What You'll Receive
Each package contains:
- 10 sheets of hand-dyed paper
- 8.5 × 11 inch standard letter-size sheets
- Standard copy paper
- Naturally dyed using tea
- An assortment selected from the hand-dyed batch
- A mixture of naturally occurring markings, tones, and textures
- Some packages may include sheets with intentionally created stencil patterns
- Some sheets may be predominantly plain, allowing the natural dye patterns and markings to take center stage
The exact combination of sheets, tones, markings, and patterns will vary from package to package.
The photographs show representative examples of this hand-dyed paper and should not be interpreted as the exact 10 sheets you will receive.
The Beauty of Natural Dye
No two batches—and no two sheets—of naturally dyed paper are exactly alike.
Because these papers are dyed by hand using natural materials, variations in color, depth of tone, mottling, texture, speckling, markings, and pattern are an expected part of the process.
A sheet may pick up an impression from a surface it rested upon while drying. The texture of a cloth or paper towel may leave an unexpected pattern. Natural material from the dye bath may create darker markings, tiny speckles, or other organic variations.
Rather than attempting to eliminate these characteristics, I allow many of them to remain as part of the finished paper.
They are evidence of the process that created it.
Some sheets are also deliberately patterned using stencils, while others are left without an applied design so that the patterns produced naturally during dyeing and drying can remain visible.
There is no “standard” pack.
Your package will contain 10 sheets chosen from the batch, but the exact combination of color, pattern, markings, and texture will be unique to your package.
A Note About Color
Natural dyes can be surprisingly difficult to capture accurately in photographs.
I have photographed these papers as carefully as possible to represent their actual appearance; however, the tea-dyed papers appear lighter and more washed out in the photographs than they do in person.
Please also keep in mind that monitors, phones, tablets, and other screens can display color differently.
Natural dye itself creates variation, so color may differ not only from the photographs but also from sheet to sheet and from one hand-dyed batch to another.
The listing photographs are intended to give you an overall impression of the paper's coloring, character, and possible variations rather than to guarantee an exact shade.
Made for Creative Possibilities
The warm, naturally aged appearance of tea-dyed paper makes these sheets especially lovely for projects where perfectly uniform commercial paper simply wouldn't have the same character.
Use them for junk journals, altered books, handmade journals, collage, mixed media, scrapbook layouts, folios, pockets and tuck spots, tags, card making, paper ephemera, backgrounds, correspondence, bookmaking, paper crafting, and other creative projects.
They can be torn, folded, layered, cut, stamped, written upon, collaged, or incorporated into your work just as you would other decorative paper.
And because every sheet has its own markings, even scraps and torn edges can reveal something unexpected.
Wander Through the Paper Garden
Step into a garden where paper takes its color from the natural world.
Wander Through the Paper Garden is a collection of hand-dyed papers created with natural materials, where color, water, texture, and time are allowed to leave their own marks behind.
No two sheets grow quite the same.
Some emerge softly mottled and quiet. Others carry deeper pools of color, delicate speckles, unexpected impressions, or patterns left behind during the dyeing and drying process. Some are given an additional layer of pattern through stenciling, while others are left to show whatever nature decided to create.
These beautiful variations are part of the journey.
Made for junk journals, collage, altered books, mixed media, paper crafting, and wherever your own creativity happens to wander.
Please Note
These papers are hand dyed rather than commercially printed or mechanically color-matched.
Natural variation is expected and may include differences in color, saturation, markings, mottling, speckling, texture, pattern placement, and other characteristics created during the dyeing and drying process.
Small natural traces or inclusions associated with the dyeing process may occasionally remain on a sheet.
Sheets may not be perfectly flat after being exposed to liquid during the hand-dyeing process. Slight waviness, wrinkles, softened edges, or other dimensional variations may occur and are considered part of the handmade nature of the paper.
Stencil designs, when included, may vary in design, position, clarity, and intensity.
You will receive 10 sheets, but you will not necessarily receive the exact sheets pictured.
Care & Storage
Because these papers are colored with natural materials rather than manufactured as commercially colorfast decorative papers, some change in color may occur over time.
For best preservation, store unused papers in a cool, dry location away from prolonged direct sunlight, excessive moisture, and humidity.
Natural dyes may react differently to adhesives, sealants, sprays, inks, wet media, and other art materials. If the final appearance is important to your project, testing your chosen materials on a small area or scrap first is recommended.
These papers are intended for decorative paper crafting and creative use.
They are not represented as archival, acid-free, food-safe, or colorfast unless specifically stated otherwise.
