Grungy Halloween Owl Tags — Weathered Stone | Set of 2
Details
Two little owls have found their way into a wonderfully grungy, weathered corner of the attic.
This one-of-a-kind pair of oversized Halloween journal tags was built by hand from layers of old book pages, folded and glued approximately four layers thick to create a sturdy base that is considerably more substantial than ordinary cardstock.
I distressed and inked the edges before adding dimensional modeling paste. Stenciled crackle modeling paste creates the wonderfully irregular, aged surface and raised patterns. After curing, the tags received multiple layers of alcohol inks in different colors to build the mottled, timeworn finish.
Each tag is finished with a playful owl—one orange and one black—nestled over loose black sewing-thread fibers. Coffee-dyed textiles and small torn fabric details add another layer of texture, while a miniature Tim Holtz fastener secures the small tab at the top.
The reverse of each tag is covered with coffee-dyed paper, giving you a generous usable area for writing, journaling, adding a quote, recording a date or leaving a little hidden message.
These pieces are intentionally imperfect, distressed and grungy. Variations in crackling, ink, texture, torn fibers and edges are part of their handmade character.
