A Little Autumn Story

Autumn gardens have a way of becoming more beautiful just as they begin to fade.

The flowers deepen into rust, coral and gold. Leaves curl at the edges. Feathery grasses and seed heads replace the bright blossoms of summer, and suddenly the smallest things seem worth noticing.

Moth & Marigold was inspired by that quieter side of autumn—the garden after summer has begun to loosen its hold.

Among the flowers is a little moth, the sort of unexpected visitor you might discover resting on a leaf while gathering the last blooms of the season.

Perhaps it has been there all afternoon.

Perhaps it knows something about the garden we don't.

Either way, it seemed like exactly the sort of tiny autumn treasure that deserved a place in a journal.

About This Set

Autumn Treasures: Moth & Marigold is a one-of-a-kind handmade mini journal and ephemera set created by Butterfly in the Attic.

At the center of the collection are two tall, slender mini journals covered in a beautiful botanical paper filled with loose watercolor-style flowers, leaves and grasses in warm coral, burnt orange, golden yellow, turquoise, soft blue and earthy green.

Each journal is backed in deep chocolate brown and finished with a contrasting corner tuck pocket—one in rich brown and the other in warm autumn orange.

Soft, loosely woven cream fabric is threaded through metal eyelets at the tops, creating wonderfully frayed ties that give the journals an informal, timeworn character.

Inside are lined writing pages, making these little journals as useful as they are pretty.

A Place to Keep Everything

The entire collection slips neatly into a large handmade tag-shaped holder.

The holder is finished in a soft ivory tone with gently inked edges and a subtle aged appearance that allows the colorful botanical journals to become the focal point when everything is tucked inside.

A deep semicircle opening in the front pocket makes the journals easy to reach while still holding them securely in place.

A coordinating autumn pen nestles between the two journals, turning the collection into a ready-to-use little writing set.

Together, the neutral holder, bright botanical papers and soft fabric ties give the set the feeling of a bundle of autumn finds gathered on an afternoon walk and brought home for safekeeping.

Two Oversized Writing Tags

Two large coordinating tags are included for additional writing, collage and memory keeping.

One is finished in a warm muted coral tone, while the other has a softer pale neutral surface. Both have gently aged edges and simple fabric tabs.

Turn them over and you'll find generous blank writing surfaces.

They can become oversized journal cards, photo mats, recipe cards, places for favorite quotations, autumn memories, garden notes or seasonal lists.

Or add your own collage, stamping, handwriting and collected paper scraps and make them entirely your own.

Little Autumn Treasures

Tucked into the journals is a small collection of removable autumn ephemera chosen to coordinate with the botanical papers.

Among the pieces is the little moth sticker that helped inspire this set, along with colorful autumn and nature-inspired images in warm seasonal tones.

There are florals, foliage and small illustrated pieces that can be moved from one pocket to another or removed completely for use elsewhere.

The corner pockets make lovely little hiding places for them.

Nothing is permanently assigned to one spot, so you can rearrange the collection as often as you like, use the pieces in another journal, add them to a collage or combine them with treasures of your own.

That is one of my favorite things about small ephemera.

It doesn't ask to be precious.

It simply asks to be played with.

A Little Journal for Writing

Inside each mini journal are lined writing pages in the same tall, slender format as the covers.

They're just the right size for recording the smaller pieces of everyday life—the things that might never make it into a full-sized journal but are worth remembering all the same.

Write down what is still blooming in the garden.

Make an autumn reading list.

Keep favorite quotations, recipes, little observations or plans for the coming season.

Record something beautiful you noticed on a walk.

Or use one for ordinary lists and notes while saving the other for memories.
