Antique 1910s–1920s Defy The World Tomato Can Label – Original Ephemera

Bold, wonderfully detailed, and more than a century old, this original Defy The World Brand Tomatoes can label dates to approximately the 1910s–1920s.

The long wraparound label features an enormous ripe red tomato surrounded by ornate period typography and decorative scrollwork. Alongside it is a remarkably detailed farmhouse scene, complete with porch, lawn, trees, and a warm streaked sky. Together, the imagery creates a wonderful little piece of early American commercial art.

The label was produced for Samuel L. Kelty & Son of Quinton, New Jersey and would originally have wrapped around a can of tomatoes. Today, the surviving unused paper offers an unusual glimpse into the colorful packaging once found on everyday pantry shelves.

Measuring approximately 14.12" x 4.62", this is an authentic antique paper label rather than a modern reproduction. Its long format makes it especially useful for junk journals and altered books, where it could become a wraparound cover, foldout, large pocket, belly band, tip-in, or striking collage element.

It would also be lovely framed or preserved as a piece of early advertising and food-packaging history.
